AXEL RUDI PELL was born on 27 June 1960 in Bochum, Germany. Having spent the first eleven years of his life with children’s and chart music, a fireball started to burn in his heart and soul after Ritchie Blackmore and Deep Purple suddenly changed his life in 1971. Out of the blue there was a soundtrack to accompany Axel’s adolescence, a basis for his life as a musician. The self-educated guitarist soon became a sought-after instrumentalist on the local music scene. One of his first major steps towards the limelight was the foundation of STEELER (1981). One of his cronies at the time was bassist Volker Krawczak, who has remained a friend and colleague to this day. However, Axel’s musical career was not always determined by stability. After his initial success (STEELER / Strike Back, 1986), Axel soon felt limited by STEELER and closed that chapter of his career in 1989 with the arrival of his solo debut, WILD OBSESSION. The original and unfounded scepticism of media and fans soon changed into euphoria. Even at the very beginning of his solo career the impressed music buffs realized that great deeds were likely to follow this more than respectable first recording.
