To fans of black metal, Dødheimsgard need no introduction, being as they are one of the great purveyors of the Norwegian Black Metal creative evolution. The band was formed in 1994 by Aldrahn (Thorns) and Vicotnik (Ved Buens Ende). The early incarnation was that of a raw and melodic black metal band, with their debut album also featuring Fenriz of Darkthrone on bass.

The band quickly evolved, and by Dødheimsgard’s third album, ‘666 International’, Vicotnik had taken over a lot of the writing duties, with DHG’s style becoming more technical yet ferocious black metal, with strong experimental ideas and industrial elements. Vicotnik’s riffs were inspired by cult bands such as Thorns, and perfectly entwined with Aldrahn’s delightfully twisted lyrics and immense vocals to create something truly unique. All in all ‘666 International’ is rightly regarded as a highly influential masterpiece of avant-garde metal by many since its release in 1999.

2005 saw the band release their debut full length album entitled ’13 Scars’, which led to a nomination in the top 5 Metal Bands at the 2006 Music Oz Awards. 2009 4ARM entered the studios to record their 2nd full length album titled ‘The Empires Of Death’. Harnessing the energy of ’13 Scars’ the band clearly showed a far more mature songwriting style. On the back of the release of ‘The Empires Of Death’, 4ARM’s popularity and achievements continued to rise. Drummer Michael Vafiotis became the first Australian artist to sign national endorsement deals with Ahead Drumsticks as well as Tama Drums. In 2010 4ARM would embark on a headline tour of Australia, the ‘Crush the Empire Tour’, as well as playing with international act Testament on the Australian leg of ’The Damnation Tour’.
2011 4ARM have taken their experience, dedication and ability to new levels. AIRRACE are mostly known for being the first band where current BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION drummer (and son of Led Zeppelin's John Bonham) Jason Bonham recorded an album with. Still the band was a creation of former NWOBHM band More guitarist Laurie Mansworth. AIRRACE released their first album "Shaft of Light" in 1984, produced by Beau Hill (Ratt, Winger, Fiona etc) gathering a great acclaim from the press and fans while still nowadays rate it as a hidden jewel of the 80's British Melodic Rock. The band however disbanded shortly thereafter. AIRRACE reunited in their original lineup for the FIREFEST 2009 and took the crowd by storm. On “Far From The Sun” Amorphis are returning to a more band-oriented concept. Having had several guest musicians and outside producers on their albums over the past years the band has this time around trusted only in themselves. Germany's ANIMA began taking shape in 2005, when guitarist André Steinmann and drummer Benjamin Kühnemund started a group named Metmachines, acquiring second guitarist Steven Holl and bassist Justin Schüler a short time later. Even before the year was out, they had renamed themselves Today Heaven's Dying, and then assumed their present, one-word moniker by 2006, at which time their original vocalist had departed to make way for new frontman Robert Horn.

ANTHRAX GIVES THE POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

Throughout their infamous 20 year career, the mighty ANTHRAX have always prided themselves on being a band of the people, for the people and by the people. This being said and with 2004 being an election year, ANTHRAX have taken that ideal one step further with their upcoming release, "The Greater Of Two Evils", an all out assault on their history with each song being voted on by their fans via the internet.

Covering their history from 1984-1990, "The Greater Of Two Evils" is made up of fourteen classic ANTHRAX songs the fans demanded by way of the thousands of votes from all over the world received on the band’s official website, anthrax.com. Based on those votes, the band entered Avatar studios in NYC one cold and snowy weekend last winter and took a trip back in time to revisit songs from their formative releases "Fistful Of Metal" (1984), "Spreading The Disease" (1985), "Among The Living" (1987), "State Of Euphoria" (1988), and "Persistence Of Time" (1990).

“It was just the five of us in a room ripping. It was intense,” Scott Ian states, “like when we first wrote these songs and started playing them for the first time. Like good whisky, they’ve aged wonderfully. There’s so much energy on this record. Busting the tracks out live in two days was definitely the way to do it." “Our fans have been so loyal over the years that we wanted to give them something special,” explains drummer Charlie Benante, “so we came up with the idea of letting them pick the songs for this album. Not to take away from our past, but ever since John has been in the band, people are always coming up to us and saying ‘I wish you would re-record this’ or ‘I would love to hear John sing that,’ so we did it and it came out great.”

A point that lead singer John Bush expounds upon, “When I joined ANTHRAX 12 years ago we wrote and recorded 'Sound Of White Noise'. Although, at that time, we felt we were going to play a lot of those tunes live, there was still a giant catalog of older songs for me to learn. From that time until now I’ve embraced those older songs like they were children of my own. Taking nothing away from the original versions, because they definitely stand tall on their own, it felt like a good idea to give the fans the choice if they wanted to hear new versions of these songs and which songs they wanted to hear the most. This is not an attempt to relive the past, just an attempt to kick 'em out with the 21st century line-up of ANTHRAX.”

And kick ‘em out they do. Well known songs like 'Caught In A Mosh', 'Madhouse' and 'Indians' get the update as well as lesser known songs such as 'Panic', 'Gung Ho' and 'Deathrider' with the latter getting the biggest over-haul. Charlie Benante explains: “While we didn’t want to deviate too much from the original recordings, we didn’t want to be strapped to them either. There are a few changes here and there with 'Deathrider' being the one that stands out the most. On our first album, 'Fistful Of Metal', that song is a blast from the beginning to the end, one speed, that’s it. All the artwork for "The Greater Of Two Evils" was done by Shepard Fairey, the subterranean legend best known for his Andre The Giant inspired OBEY graphics. “We wanted something different this time out,” says Benante who serves not only as drummer and songwriter but as the resident art director as well. “Our last two releases we used famed painter Alex Ross who did two unbelievable covers for us (2003’s critically acclaimed 'We’ve Come For You All' and their live DVD/CD 'Music Of Mass Destruction' which was released earlier this year.), and we wanted to go in a slightly different direction."

ANTHRAX hopes that "The Greater Of Two Evils" serves as a history lesson and a starting off point for the whole new generation of fans who were turned onto the band over the course of the last couple of years, something that was quite evident during their never-ending 2003-04 MUSIC OF MASS DESTRUCTION World Tour. On that tour, which took them to virtually every continent on the planet including shows in Russia, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Hungary, the members of ANTHRAX were noticing that their crowds were being made up of kids who were not old enough to be around when the previously mentioned "Among The Living" was released some years ago. “It's weird,” says Benante, “when I talk to our fans I find myself amazed that we have made such an impact for all these years. When we first started we were kids with nothing to do who just wanted to play. The fact that we have been around for a generation and continue to play to thousands of kids all around the world 9 months out of the year, I would have never have believed it. I think this album brings it back full circle.”

Sound Of White Noise marks an important album in the history of ANTHRAX as the first record with singer John Bush on board. Anthrax were true innovators, years a head of their time. State of Euphoria and Persistence of Time continued the tradition. This was the time when Anthrax got fed up with longtime Belladona and some time later they decided to go separate ways. In 2010, Jim Matheos (current member of the progressive rock powerhouse Fates Warning and OSI) and John Arch (former vocalist of Fates Warning) teamed up to form the new progressive metal band, ARCH / MATHEOS. The band -accompanied by the talented lineup of Joey Vera (Armored Saint, Anthrax) on bass, Bobby Jarzombek (Riot, Sebastian Bach) on drums, and Frank Aresti on additional lead guitar. The technical proficiency of the band’s instrumentalists is apparent throughout the disc's 6 tracks, three of which clock in at over ten minutes each; each musician bringing great depth, complex layers, and powerful harmonies to the table with the end result being as dynamic as it is exciting.

Armed for Apocalypse is a metal band. Once upon time, that would tell you basically everything you needed to know about them: that their guitars sound like industrial-grade saw blades tearing through the wall of an ancient tomb, that they had a "vocalist" as opposed to a singer, and that they were heavy like, well, metal. But these days, "metal" is a convoluted term. To some, metal is a matter of how fast you can play. If you can play X scale at Y speed, then by golly, you're a metal band. Recently completed a highly successful tour of Australia and are regular visitors to these shores including the first Soundwave. It’s hard to believe that a veteran metal band like San Diego’s As I Lay Dying could be just hitting their stride now, some 10 years and five full-lengths into an already stellar career. Still, even after just one listen to the quintet’s latest, ‘The Powerless Rise’, you can’t ignore the obvious: One of modern metal’s best just got better. Similar to their approach on 2007's Grammy-nominated ‘An Ocean Between Us’, the band chose to employ the production prowess of Adam D. The result is an album built upon the strength of its parts and the remarkable ways in which those parts become a cohesive whole.

For this current round of lyrics, frontman Tim Lambesis gravitated toward a concept centrally represented in the song “Upside Down Kingdom,” which posits that the suffering of the world stems from the broken, upside-down nature of society. In addition to providing the line that became the album’s title, the song lays out the guiding premise behind many of ‘The Powerless Rise’s’ ideological excursions—the notion that if we do the opposite of what the modern world tells us, many of the problems this current world causes will no longer exist. Lambesis stresses that rather than fill an album with bitter ranting, he’s attempting to offer a solution with ‘The Powerless Rise’.

So yes, it may come as a surprise to some that AILD would attain an entirely new level of artistry and urgency with their fifth release Powerless when many others might consider phoning it in, but once you appreciate all the various ingredients essential to the album, it’s no shock at all. By taking the trademark AILD sound then adding a band-wide effort and Lambesis’ novel approach to writing lyrics, the group has truly outdone themselves on The Powerless Rise, at least for now.

April 2012 sees the release of the fifth AURA NOIR album, “Out to Die”, their first album with INDIE recordings, with Blasphemer permanently back in the fold and several tours in Europe, North- and South America under their belt since 2008’s ‘’Hades Rise’’. "Out to Die" has been in the making for the past few years, being forged at Apollyon´s studio in the mountains of Alvdal whenever the band gathered for beer and frenziness. Short, compact, straightforward songs coexist with intricate, multi-layered songs that take their time to draw to a close. Jens: “We set out to write music that captures our hearts or imagination, not necessarily songs that fit a typical format. Beyond the Bridge are a German Progressive Rock/Metal band who started in 1999 under the name of “Fallout”. Zakk Wylde's Artemis Records debut, MAFIA, is not only his seventh album since founding Black Label Society in 1998, but part of a solo career that's a sideline to playing guitar for Ozzy Osbourne. Wylde's workload apparently hasn't negatively affected his own sound. If anything, his playing on this sixth Black Label Society studio project is as good as it's ever been.
Equally impressive are Wylde's vocals, which have evolved into a mix of musical godfather Ozzy and late Alice in Chains frontman Layne Staley. His voice works splendidly when coupled with the skull-crushing riffs and dirge-like rumble of BLS songs like the unbelievably heavy opener, "Fire It Up," and the post-grunge tour de force "What's in You." And unlike most of his hard-rocking brethren, Wylde isn't averse to in-studio tinkering. The piano accompaniment and spry, acoustic-guitar solos incorporated into the epic "Dirt on the Grave" make it an exemplary track. Topicality also plays a role in the creative process, be it the assault on corruption throughout the maelstrom of "Suicide Messiah" or the heartfelt sendoff given to Wylde's murdered friend Dimebag Darrell in the shape of the poignant "In This River."

Quick, name the guitarist whose previous albums have sold more than Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones and AC/DC combined. Hint: It’s not Zakk Wylde.
“Let’s just tell everyone that anyway,” says the guitarist, before launching into a long conversation about other small white lies he’d like stated as fact (including his bench press and a certain anatomy size).

Zakk’s one funny dude, but take the guy seriously: he’s also a phenomenally successful musician and a certified metal deity (see below). For over 20 years he served as Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist, a collaboration that produced a string of multi-platinum albums, including Osbourne’s biggest selling album No More Tears (Wylde wrote all of the music) and Ozzmosis. His band, Black Label Society, is on the verge of releasing its eighth (and best) studio album, Order of the Black, a cacophony of heavy riffing, heartfelt ballads and thunderous metal. After years as a mainstay on Ozzfest (including this year!), Black Label is about to embark on its own headlining festival tour, entitled The Black Label Berzerkus. And, in the last few months, Wylde was anointed both a Golden God by Metal Hammer and a Best Guitarist Award by Revolver, two metal bibles essentially bestowing their highest honor on a guy who hasn’t released new material in four years. And hey, Wylde’s even got his own custom guitar lines for Gibson and Epiphone, which includes the signature Gibson Les Paul with a bulls-eye graphic that you may have seen used recently by none other than…Justin Bieber guitarist Dan Kanter*.

That’s an impressive resume right there, whether it includes out-selling Zeppelin and the Stones or not (note: it doesn’t). The back story to that is even nuttier – and the stuff of heavy metal legend. Born and raised in New Jersey, Wylde picked up the guitar at 14 and started playing in a few local bands during and after high school, earning his stripes in a group called Zyris and making ends meet in a series of menial jobs (including gas station attendant). A fortuitous run-in with a rock photographer helped land Wylde an audition with Ozzy Osbourne, who was looking for a new guitarist. Wylde couldn’t believe he got the gig; the 20-year old soon found out he was joining the ranks of Tony Iommi, Randy Rhoads and Jake E. Lee as Ozzy’s right hand man.

Several gigantic albums and multiple stadium tours followed. During his off-time, Wylde completed a solo record, an album under the name Pride & Glory, and, in 1999, formed his own group, Black Label Society, which went on to earn its own fervent fanbase (known as the Berzerkers) over the course of eight albums

This, you pretty much know…but the last twelve months have seen Wylde’s life radically altered. First, doctors discovered blood clots in his leg. “The doc was like, ‘you have, what, a drink a day?’ Six? 12? A case?’ I’m like, ‘It’s a liquid diet,’” says Wylde, laughing. “I mean, I’d drink beer while lifting weights. That’s Black Label Society style for you right there. But the doc told me if I kept this up, I’d be dead by the time I was 50. So I stopped drinking. No big deal.”

Then, the second bomb dropped. Osbourne, Wylde’s boss and mentor since 1988, announced he was looking for a new guitarist. “I heard that, and to me, hey, the glass was half-full,” he says. “It’s like, thanks for letting me be there for 23 years! I’ll always cherish that. What more could Ozzy do for me at this point?” As if to prove a lack of animosity, Wylde and BLS will perform on this summer’s Ozzfest tour before heading out on their own. “I look at it this way: instead of 24-7, Black Label Society is now my life 25-8,” he says.

For the new Black Label Society record, Wylde recorded with his bandmate JD DeServio and new drummer Will Hunt in his home studio, dubbed the Black Label Bunker. “I gutted the whole place, made it state-of-the-art, mixed and recorded there – the whole thing came out slammin’,” he says, adding that he plans to bring in other bands to record there for his own record label, Panworkz.

Order of the Black, the band’s eighth album, isn’t a radical departure from the band’s previous work – it’s simply a refinement. There are brutal riffs (“Crazy Horse”), Southern doom (“Southern Dissolution”), gentle contemplation (the piano ballads “Darkest Days” and “Time Waits for No One”) and epic thrash (“Godspeed Hellbound”). The album’s first single, “Parade of the Dead,” meanwhile, features some vintage shredding from Wylde (or, as one very satisfied Berzerker posted online, “It’s a bit Randy Rhoads-ian. I love it!”)…as well as one wicked, bad-ass groove.

While tracks like “Darkest Days” and “Shallow Grave” may portend a darker, more personal record, Wylde doesn’t necessarily see the album going one particular direction, be it heavier, moodier or lighter. “It’s just whatever the songs are,” says Wylde. “I hate bands who are like ‘This is our heaviest yet’…so it’s just picking and screaming now? Or, ‘this is the fastest guitar playing I’ve ever done.’ Then you’re listening to notes. My favorite artists – Zeppelin, Sabbath, Elton John – the whole thing is songs. Back in Black wasn’t the heaviest or most vulgar AC/DC album – it has the best songs.”

Wylde will head out on the road later this year on the inaugural Berzerkus tour, featuring a number of heavy bands he’s befriended over the years, including Clutch, Children of Bodom and 2cents. “I’m always running into them, and I thought it would be an awesome excuse to get together,” he says. “It’s going to be a tour of insanity, drunkenness (well, not for me) and dysfunction, that’s for sure.”

So with a new album, headlining package tour and two of metal’s biggest accolades, what’s next for the guitarist? “Chinese Democracy 2,” he says. “What Axl did was nothing. I was gone for four years before this album, and suddenly I’m a Golden God and metal’s Best Guitarist. Next time I’m gonna go away for 15 years and come back with a Pulitzer and a Nobel Peace Prize.”

* FYI, Wylde only has admiration for Bieber and his guitarist, Dan Kanter. “Right now, I think a bunch of people see me on stage and think I’m playing a Dan Kanter guitar,” he says, laughing. “All I know is, right after that photo came out of him with that guitar, our Twitter feed went from 20,000 to like 18 million. We’re bringing a lot of young chicks into the dark side.”

Mighty Doom icons CATHEDRAL from Coventry, England for sure are one of the most unique and unpredictable acts around. Starting with quite sinister and ultra-slow songs on the 1990 EP „In Memorium“ and the full-length album „Forest Of Equilibrium“, CATHEDRAL quickly gained cult status. The 1992 follow-up EP „Soul Sacrifice“ brought changes soundwise and saw the band mixing traditional Doom with 70s – Hardrock and showed a first glimpse of the trademarks CATHEDRAL still represent nowadays. After having previously toured with MORBID ANGEL and SAINT VITUS, the band embarked on the legendary „Gods Of Grind“ – Tour with ENTOMBED, CARCASS and CONFESSOR. „The Ethereal Mirror“ featured alltime faves like ’Ride’ and ’Midnight Mountain’ and suddenly gave CATHEDRAL the reputation as „the next big thing in Metal“. Struggling with this label, the band started to experiment on the EP „Statik Majik“ and probably tried out every single instrument they could lay their hands on to churn out a 20-minute-track like ’Voyage Of The Homeless Sapien’. After touring with BLACK SABBATH, the guys went on to record the landmark „The Carnival Bizarre“ in 1996 that brought us immortal tunes such as ’Hopkins (The Witchfinder General)’ and ’Utopian Blaster’ – the latter featuring Tony Iommi on guitar. „Supernatural Birth Machine“ was released in 1996 after touring in South America, Europe and Japan amongst others. The catchy songwriting on that album echoed on „Caravan Beyond Redemption“ in 1998, but with a heavier twist to it. The next serious change in style occurred on the gloomy and sludgy „Endtyme“ that went almost completely without sound experiments and concentrated on ultra-grim riffing. 2002`s „The VIIth Coming“ combined catchiness with heaviness to form a well-balanced mixture between old and new CATHEDRAL. Now that the English fourpiece has returned with „The Garden Of Unearthly Delights“ it`s time to follow them for new adventures in sound…

„Follow The Reaper“ also marks a radical change in recording surroundings. The band decided to venture into unknown territory and this time to record outside of Finland and chose Sweden’s legendary Abyss Studio’s , with the famed producer Peter Tägtgren ( Hypocrisy/Pain).

„Follow The Reaper“ is a glorious mixture of their debut album’s heavy riffing raw sound, combined with „Hatebreeder’s“ monsterous technical metal acrobatics.

The most noticable thing is how much the band have improved not only as a unit, but also bringing the personal levels of musicianship to a new high.

The nine new songs on offer represent Children Of Bodom at their finest. Every song is a killer, there are no fillers, combining riffy and brutal, yet ,melodic songs, with an addictive hook, guaranteed to make you want to hear it over and over again.

The most noticable change is that of the vocals of Alexi Laiho, his raw and brutal style remain intact, but this time even he manages a hint of melody, to propell that distinctive Bodom sound to new heights.

It`s doubtful if anyone dreamed to think that the foundation stone for a band had been laid as a madman murdered a few campers, during the late 60`s, at Lake Bodom in Finland. Fascinated by this mysterious occurrence, which took place near their hometown Espoo, Alexi Laiho and Jaska Raatikainen thus found the name of their band: CHILDREN OF BODOM.

They immediately won the hearts of the fans and the press with their debut album "Something Wild" which was released in 1998 and they gave many a great live performance, too. The band completed two highly successful tours (including shows with Hypocrisy, Benediction and Dismember) and a fabulous gig at the legendary Wacken Open Air.

At the end of 1998 CHILDREN OF BODOM barricaded themselves together with producer Anssi Kippo in the Astia Studio in Lapppeeranta to record their second release "Hatebreeder". The album was then mixed by the Finish Metal guru Mikko Karmilla (Waltari) in the Finnvox Studios in Helsinki.

"Hatebreeder" includes the song `Children of Bodom´ which hit the number one spot in the official Finish charts and remained there for several weeks. The other songs also have all the makings of future hits and will rapidly worm their way in every ear canal - and stay there! CHILDREN OF BODOM`s new material is still very catchy but slightly more progressive.

CHILDREN OF BODOM hail from Espoo, Finland, and were orignally formed under a different name during spring 1993. In Espoo one can find the infamous Lake Bodom, where the rawest murders in the history of Finnish crime were committed in the late 60’s. The musical style of the band has gone through a lot of changes during the first years. They started as a Death/Thrash band, but after a while they started to play their current Black/Death with lots of classic Heavy Metal influences.

In August 1997 the lead guitarist/vocalist Alexi Laiho joined the kings of Finnish Dark/Black Metal, THY SERPENT, as a new lead guitarist. This was whole new start for Alexi’s own band too: The boss of THY SERPENT, Sami Tenetz, visited the Spinefarm offices one day with the raw mix of just recorded CHILDREN OF BODOM debut album, and the three-album deal was inked basically the next day!!!!

The band were also featured on Spinefarm’s quot;METALLILITTO"-compilation (released in October 1997), and got a great response with their track "Deadnight Warrior". The compilation has already sold over 5500 copies in Finland. The new THY SERPENT album, with Alexi Laiho on lead guitar, will be released in late spring’98. After their debut album "Something wild" was released in Finland (November 1997), things started to happen to the band pretty fast. They played a couple of really wild shows (they also supported DIMMU BORGIR in their Helsinki show in November’97) and were hailed as the new kings of finnish underground metal by both the radio and the press. Also, the licensing deal with NUCLEAR BLAST for central Europe was inked, and the debut album "Something wild" will be also released in Japan and in Thailand during early 1998.

Dario Mollo is an Italian guitar player/producer who stood behind one of Italian Heavy Metal prime movers – Crossbones. Drawing on his previous years of work, his many valuable hours of studio time and his perfected technique, he teamed up with Don Airey and some friends to record the first The Cage album. 2004 will go down in history as the year the Bay Area legends returned… Following the mind-blowing comeback of EXODUS with "Tempo Of The Damned" in February, it’s now time for another ‘Frisco Bay legend to steal the spotlight again: DEATH ANGEL! The five-piece became immortal between 1987 and 1990 with their three milestone albums "The Ultra Violence", "Frolic Through The Park" and above all "Act III", but vanished almost completely into thin air afterwards.

"The Art Of Dying" is DEATH ANGEL's first album after a 14 years hiatus, but one thing is sure: time hasn't harmed the band's talent in any way! With a line-up that has remained largely unchanged since the 1980s (only Gus Pepa left the band and got replaced by Ted Aguilar), DEATH ANGEL deliver a tour-de-force of pure, uncut thrash Metal comprising of great and powerful thrashers like 'Thrown To The Wolves', 'Thicker Than Blood' and 'Prophecy', "The Art Of Dying", incredible mid-tempo smashers such as the catchy 'The Devil Incarnate' and even a haunting ballad with 'Words To The Wise'.

DEATH ANGEL were one of the youngest bands from the Bay Area to thrill thrash fans from the very beginning on with their inventive style. A demo tape, produced in 1986 by Kirk Hammett (METALLICA) got them a deal with Enigma Records and led to the first album "The Ultra Violence" in 1987 (drummer Andy was only 14 years old at the time!). The youthful spirit and pure energy of the record hit the scene like a bomb and more than 40.000 copies were sold in just four months.

With "Frolic Through The Park" one year later the band received brilliant reviews and gained further popularity. This time though even MTV took note, and the video for ‘Bored’ found its way through the airwaves on "Headbanger's Ball". Death Angel’s TV premier furore prompted Geffen Records executives to sign the band on the spot.

The following masterpiece "Act III" is still regarded as one of the most unique, groundbreaking and essential Thrash albums ever. The video clips for 'Seemingly Endless Time' and 'Room With A View' were featured with heavy rotation on MTV and the following "Act III World Tour" was sold out almost completely!

Then, as the band was ready to climb higher peaks, tragedy struck. A serious tour bus crash in the Arizona dessert in 1990 left Andy Galeon critically injured and forced him to a year long recovery. During this downtime, singer Mark decided to leave the band and moved to New York. The remaining members formed THE ORGANIZATION (or THE O, as they came to be known) and released two pretty successful albums before the band also split up in 1995.

On the occasion of the "Thrash Of The Titans Festival", DEATH ANGEL reunited in 2001 and enthused the audience with an absolute killer show. Many further offers to play live came up quickly, resulting in gigs at the Dutch Dynamo Open Air 2002, a co-headlining position during the European "No Mercy" festival tour and supporting shows together with ANTHRAX, METALLICA and ROB HALFORD. Finally a dream for every DEATH ANGEL fan came true when the band announced the recordings of "The Art Of Dying" in late 2003.

Over the past few years, Norway’s Dimmu Borgir have managed to become the most prominent melodic black metal outfit amongst the underground metal scene. After releasing an early 7” EP entitled Inn I Evighetens Morke (English translation: Into The Eternity Of Darkness) in 1994, they promptly recorded their now-classic debut full-length, For All Tid, which was released in late 1994.

In 1996, they released one of the most important albums in black metal history, Stormblåst, which instantly made them the hottest black metal sensations at the time. They took a big step forward towards attaining the distinctive sound they are known for presently: mature song writing, tempo variances, strong classical influences and one of the most recognized black metal sounds in existence. Stormblåst displayed an increase in speed, yet maintained the harmonious melody and overwhelming atmosphere throughout.

Djerv is a new band that appeared on the radar early 2010. Spawn out of Trelldom, Animal Alpha and Stonegard they pull strings from their previous bands, but Djerv is still something new. It sounds different. It`s aggressive rock, borderline metal and dangerously catchy. Yet wrapped in a blackmetal veil? Genres melt together as never before these days, and so seems to be the case with Djerv as well.

Their story is short but eventful. The first demos surfaced early 2010, and two weeks later they were booked for the most important festival in Norway, the Oya festival. They went on to tour Norway in June and played several of the bigger Norwegian festivals during the summer. In August 2010 they released the “Headstone EP” which basically is their first ever recorded demo tracks made available as people kept demanding to get to hear them not only on Myspace.

The release of the “Headstone EP” generated some good press for the band several key magazines featured them as one of the bands to keep an eye out for in 2011.

In addition Dimmu Borgir has helped promote Djerv when they invited Agnete to participate on no less than three songs for their latest album, “Abrahadabra”. Amongst them the lead track of the album, “Gateways” where Agnete does a stunning performance both on the track and in the video. She also did a critically acclaimed performance on the last Solefald Album “Norrøn Livskunst”.

EDGUY started as a high school band in 1992 playing traditional metal. Mainly intended to be a counterpoint to the Grunge music, which was incredibly popular at that time. The fourteen years old friends made the first musical steps with covering songs from their favourite bands DEEP PURPLE, KISS, AC/DC and IRON MAIDEN, but soon started doing their own thing.

After almost five years, with numerous attempts to attract attention of a record company, AFM Records finally gave EDGUY the chance to prove themselves. Between 1997 and 2003, EDGUY released five studio albums, each one, an improvement to the predecessor, and the band gained a bigger and bigger fanbase. The fresh and saucy spirit of EDGUY and their charismatic singer Tobias Sammet – live permanently fooling around – extended the band's popularity quickly. And within a few years, EDGUY got known as one of the most entertaining live acts. "Mandrake" released in 2001 became the band's "big hit": Brimmed with charming melodies, powerful riffs and great choruses, the record entered the top 20 in several European charts and led to EDGUY's first big headliner tour which took them to 23 countries on four different continents (Europe, Asia, Australia, South America and the USA). The tour lasted more than a year and bestowed EDGUY absolute success all over the world.

In October 2003 Edguy signed to Nuclear Blast and recorded "King Of Fools". Released in February 2004, the EP featured, besides the groovy title track, four high-class non-album-tracks. The first press reactions for "Hellfire Club" already pointed out the undeniable fact: With this album, EDGUY surpassed themselves once again. No matter if you take the melodic heavy-smasher 'Mysteria', the riff-monster 'Under The Moon" or the happy 'Lavatory Love Machine', there's simply no blackout on this album. After a short break, EDGUY followed up with the sensational EP/DVD "Superheroes", an appetizer for "Rocket Ride", the brand new album. Now it’s time to prepare for the ride – the most memorable ride you’ll ever have. "Rocket Ride". Tobi Sammet on the new masterpiece: "The album was produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by Sascha Paeth at the infamous Gate studios in Wolfsburg. It was the first time that we've recorded basics like drums, bass and rhythm-guitars live in one room, all at the same time (which is really unusual, unless you’re AC/DC and it’s 1979). It was all recorded on analogue 2-inch tape and later on transferred to digital medium. That way we had the tape-machine’s compression in order to get a warmer, but still powerful sound with depth.
We’ve spent quite some time experimenting with sounds. In the past we recorded all songs in Fulda, flew the recordings to Finland and got them mixed there by someone else. This time we had the advantage of having Sascha supervising everything from start to finish and helping to arrange and record things the way they needed to be done to get the best possible sound.

A few weeks into the production Sascha decided to expand and build a new studio next door with even better equipment just to mix and master. "Rocket Ride" is the first production to be mixed in his "Studio B" and listening to the results we believe Sascha will set new standards with this studio work. Recording and mixing each song individually instead of using one template or set-pattern for all tracks assures that each song is technically in the best possible shape and that a sound fits a specific song perfectly. That’s why there’s such much variety in terms of sounds on the album. We can proudly announce, that we did an album, that some other bands wouldn’t have dared to do, but in the end it worked because it’s still as Edguy as it could be. Enjoy the rocket ride..." Mark his words while you’re listening to happy-dappy pearls like "Superheroes" or "Rocket Ride"! The first edition will come along with two bonus-tracks, one anthemic midtempo song by the name of "Fucking With Fire (Hairforce One)" and a slower tune called "Standing In The Rain".

Now, after two years filled with touring, it´s finally time for a new full-length masterpiece. “Tinnitus Sanctus” was produced, recorded and mixed once again by Sascha Paeth at the infamous Gate Studios in Wolfsburg.

We've kept our trademarks and still there are a lot of elements that are different to anything we've done before. ELF was a Rock/Honky Tonk/Blues band founded in 1967, in Cortland New York by singer and bassist Ronnie James Dio, Doug Thaler, drummer Gary Driscoll, Micky Lee Soule and guitarists Nick Pantas and David “Rock” Feinstein (Dio’s cousin). The band was originally called The Electric Elves, but was shortened to The Elves and finally ELF in the mid-1970s. In 1972, legendary Record Executive Clive Davis signed ELF to Epic/Sony Music.

ELF recorded 3 albums, one for Epic/Sony and the other two for Universal. This is the very first time this CD is being officially released. The first ELF LP was produced by Deep Purple members Roger Glover and Ian Paice, who happened to see ELF auditioning in 1972.The next few years, the band enjoyed mild success as an opening act for Deep Purple. The first Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow LP featured Ronnie James Dio on vocals and all the musicians in ELF (minus the guitar player) from this LP and the band Rainbow was formed! FILE UNDER DIO!!!!

ELUVEITUE from Switzerland clearly belongs to the fast growing Pagan Metal-scene, anyhow brings some "fresh air" into it. ELUVEITIE's sound is traditional, authentic celtic Folk Music combined in a unique way with modern styled Melodic Death Metal, strongly influenced by the classic “Göthenburg Sound”. Originally formed by Mastermind Chrigel Glanzmann in winter 2002 as a mere studio-project, the first EP "Vên" was recorded in 2003, already unique in it's way of having the Folk-Part being on an equal footing with the Metal-Instruments. This self-financed MCD was ardently received by the scene, zines etc. and sold out within a few Months. In 2004 ELUVEITIE signed to the dutch label Fear Dark Records, which released a re-mastered (and partly re-recorded) version of "Vên", and continued as a "real" band, playing gigs together with bands such as CRUACHAN, KORPIKLAANI and SKYFORGER. Although many line-up changes still had to happen, ELUVEITIE grew into being a band, and developed it's very own style, formed by the many different influences of nine musicians rooted in different styles of music. In late 2005, Eluveitie was finally ready to enter the studio and record their first full-lenght Album, to be released on Fear Dark Records again.

After the success of the album in the metal- and folk scene, the band signed a contract with german based metal label NUCLEAR BLAST. GOD DETHRONED was formed by main man Henri Sattler in 1990. After one demo they released their debut album ‘The Christhunt’ in 1992 on a tiny German label. With new band members and better songs GOD DETHRONED recorded The Grand Grimoire and inked a deal with Metal Blade. Many successful tours followed in Europe, the U.S. and Japan with great Death and Black Metal acts like Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Immortal and Marduk, just to name a few.

In contradiction to the previous albums PASSIONDALE is a lot more extreme and furious because of the return of Roel Sanders on drums. Roel played on ‘Grand Grimoire’ and ‘Bloody Blasphemy’ as well. Albums that were dominated by blast beats, brutal riffing but also many rhythmic parts. It seemed the most logical thing to do, to go back to our early sound.

Godseed is a side project from Gorgoroth’s Gaahl and King Ov Hell. This release is of their infamous live show from Wacken 2008 where they headlined the main stage in front of 75,000 Screaming fans.
The concert featured sheep heads on stakes, "crucified" nude models, satanic symbols, and eighty gallons of sheep's blood. This spectacular show is now available as a Live CD, including the film of the show on a bonus DVD. The package contains special liner notes from the band about the process of recreating this special show.

GOD SEED came to life as a result of a dispute over the band name Gorgoroth and the name was chosen as the banner under which Gaahl and King wanted to continue their art. When one talks about Heavy Metal today, HAMMERFALL is one of the first bands that will be mentioned. For more than a decade, this Swedish group has formulated graceful, power-driven melodies that not only tested musical boundaries, but stuck to it and kept themselves at the top of their game. When it comes to power metal, there is one stronghold that you just can’t miss. HAMMERFALL!

Often credited with bringing back the melodies and honesty in music, the world-wide crusade will continue in 2009, with their new superb album ‘No Sacrifice, No Victory’! This Masterpiece includes 10 tracks of cannon blasting true metal riffing, plus a special cover version of the all-time classic ‘My Sharona’. Once again, Hammerfall proof that it’s possible to develop your sound without loosing your trademarks! This album is another high quality record, just as expected from a band like Hammerfall!

After the band HammerFall was formed in '96 by Oscar Dronjak and his friend Jesper Strömblad, their debut album "Glory To The Brave" marked a new beginning for the stagnating Metal-scene (it even entered the german charts at position 38!). By this time, Jesper already left the band, as he wanted to focus on his own band In Flames.

With the line-up Joacim Cans (voice), Oscar Dronjak (guitar), Stefan Elmgren (guitar), Magnus Rosen (bass) and Patrick Räfling (drums), they succeeded also in getting a good reputation as live-band during several tours with bands like Gamma Ray.

Therefore, their fans had high expectations, as the release of their second album "Legacy Of Kings" was announced for '98. And although the advance-single "Heeding The Call" reached position 48 in the single charts, the full-length album went beyond all expectations. A sensational 15th position was reached and suddenly Hammerfall were on the same level than big acts like Metallica, Manowar, Iron Maiden or Helloween; bands that already succeeded in entering the Top 20. With strengthened self-confidence, the band went on tour and again proved that they worked hard with as they delivered an improved stage performance.

The tour was a big success, and right after, they recorded the Helloween-classic "I Want Out" together with Kai Hansen (Gamma Ray, ex-Helloween), which entered the charts at position 75. Sadly, Patrick then decided to leave as the band needed too much time, but HammerFall were able to find a good replacement: Anders Johansson, who formerly played with acts like Yngwie Malmsteen or Dio.

Together they went on a small festival tour (Gods Of Metal/Italy, Wacken Open Air and Bang Your Head/Germany), and then concentrated on writing new song material.

Songs like "Destined For Glory", "Templars Of Steel" or the title track (already released as single CD) are sure classics that will be remembered in the Heavy Metal-Hall of Fame! Another great song is the ballad "Always Will Be", which shows Joacims finest vocal performance so far. But the absolute masterpiece might be "The Champion", a track that lives up to the description "catchy". This time, HammerFall decided to renounce a cover version, but therefore they recorded an instrumental track called "Raise The Hammer", which shows the full potential of Stefan's songwriting skills.

After the first two albums had both been recorded in Göteborg (Studio Fredman), the band this time entered the Wire World Studios in Nashville/USA. Nobody less than producer legend Michael Wagener (Accept, Skid Row, Ozzy Osbourne and lots more) took care of "Renegade", and as expected, it turned out to be an absolutely convincing high-end production. At the same time, the band has continued to develop, frequently surprising with progressive orchestrations and arrangements that have their finger unmistakably on the pulse of the times. “It’s all a question of self-confidence,” confesses Deris, whose contemporary and multi-faceted songwriting is a perfect match for the compositions of his colleagues, Weikath, Großkopf and Gerstner, without leaving the established framework of melodic metal. 16 new tracks were completed, 11 of which – plus the intro – have made it onto the regular version of Gambling With The Devil.

After the sensational success of their last album "Better Than Raw" and their very succesful support-tour for Iron Maiden, Germany's favourite Metal Band took a longer break, which only was interrupted by the release of the coverversion-album "Metal Jukebox". This album was the last one that was published by Castle Communications, and due to its success the band was totally relaxed while looking for a new label. In the end, Nuclear Blast were able to secure a deal, and the band began to work on their new album "The Dark Ride" immediately.

Recorded in Teneriffa, at My Sueno Music Studios, the album features a lot of the typical Helloween-trademarks and, rest assured, won't disappoint any fan. Together with producers Roy Z. (Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford) and Charlie Bauerfeind the band managed to create an opus which will set the measuring pole for competitors to another level. Although "Better Than Raw" was already surprisingly heavy, Andi Deris (vocals), Michael Weikath (guitars), Roland Grapow (guitars), Markus Grosskopf (bass) and drummer Uli Kusch now managed to deliver their heaviest and most powerful album so far. It's especially remarkable that most of the songs have been written as single-handed attempt and not as a band effort. Therefore a wide range of stilistic elements is covered, of course, as everyone of the band has their own style of writing songs. Nevertheless the boys succeeded in creating an album that unmistakeably sounds like Helloween.

To emphasize on single tracks is pointless, because it wouldn't do any justice to the whole of the album. You simply won't find any fillers! Anyway, just have a listen to the catchy opener "Mr. Torture", bang your head to the driving, powerful track "The Departed" or the (already released) single "If I Could Fly". Not to forget "Escalation 666" which for sure is their most sinister and heaviest song so ever. However, with this album, Helloween again proved that it's impossible to speak of european metal without mentioning their name!

Some people are always right, which is sometimes scary, but also admirable. Thankfully only in dry areas like science or politics – art is a completely different case. That’s why I’m sincerely happy that Peter Tägtgren, mainman of Sweden’s legendary death metal outfit HYPOCRISY and one of the most respected producers for death and black metal, was definetely wrong when by the time HYPOCRISY’s last selftitled album came out he announced that "fast songs are for the young bands. They do it much better than we do." Instead of sticking to his words and continuing HYPOCRISY on a path of refined heaviness, events over the last year made him change his mind. One important factor is the surpising career of Tägtgren’s solo project Pain which ended high up in the swedish charts. Of course Pain’s music is not really what I would term commercial, but "refined heaviness" fits rather well. And this path lead straight into glamourous TV studios, teenie magazines and talkshows – not really places that see Peter happy. Another factor is the long-awaited return of his hitherto just executing musicians Mikael Edlund (bass) and Lars Szöke (drums) to songwriting duties. Especially Lars seems to be one of those persons that only come to life at a speed considered dangerous by normal persons... The result: HYPOCRISY had two songs that one would consider fast, INTO THE ABYSS is the other way round. Apart from two reminders of HYPOCRISY’s recent heaviness everything breathes a wildness as if death metal just has its second coming and HYPOCRISY are young again. But we are not talking about going back to brutal classics like OSCULUM OBSCENUM or THE FOURTH DIMENSION.

The raging intensity is just a cover for innovative ideas that go way beyond death metal standards. INTO THE ABYSS is more than an exercise in old school stylistics. Written and recorded in just five weeks it’s full of spontaneous interaction between three creative forces. Bizarre riffs lie twisted on top of manic drum cacsades, and above all Peter’s ghastly screams and sinister growls give birth to a shadow world of horror and violence. INTO THE ABYSS is not what HYPOCRISY‘s fans have expected, but it’s what they should have expected.

Because this band never refused any challenge, and be it one posed by themselves. So expect the unexpected, but rest assured that the result is brillant.
